The present volume is collection of 32 papers in an abbreviated English version selected from the Journal of ELSI Studies published in Korean. This collection is intended to serve both as an introduction and as a general overview of the current stated of ELSI research in Korea. ELSI stands for ethical, legal, and social implications. Originating from the Human Genome Project in the U.S. in the 1990s, the acronym has been widely used to refer to interdisciplinary research into the social impact of advanced biotechnology. The Journal of ELSI Studies was launched in 2003 in an effort to facilitated ELSI research in Korea.
